JVA JMB-ZM1 Enegizer & Monitor

JVA JMB Energizer and Monitor

The JMB series is the most powerful and feature rich electric fence energizer JVA has manufactured to date. This continues JVA's push for technical superiority in the area of Monitored Electric Fencing and IP Energizers®. While the JMB energizers were specifically designed for game parks and exclusion fencing, they are also well suited to any large permanent electric fencing application.

The JMB-ZM1 contains circuitry that allows it to power and monitor a single, high-power fence zone. The Power Monitor measures both the real and reactive components of the fence voltage and feed current. By doing so, it can detect a fault at distances beyond 10km from the Energizer.

Key Features & Capabilities

Here are some of the standout technical/functional features of the JMBx-ZM1:

It can deliver high stored energy for a large electric fence zone — for example up to ~46 joules in certain models (JMB32-ZM1) for long fences.

it measures voltage and current (feed, return, ground) on the fence line to detect faults.

It incorporates a technology called Distant Fault Detection (DFD™), so that it can detect faults far away along the fence – beyond what basic energizers could.

It supports remote monitoring/control features: e.g., “Virtual Keypad” via WiFi for setup/monitoring, and relays/outputs (siren, strobe) for security applications.

It is designed for large permanent fencing, or security-grade fences, not just small portable units.

Typical Use & Applications

A large property (farm, game reserve, border/security perimeter) needing a high-powered electric fence with fault detection and monitoring.

Where you want to know if/when there is a failure (short, earth fault, vegetation touching wire) and ideally get alerts or data.

Where the fence is long and you want monitoring of “start of fence” rather than just at one end. From the manual: “can detect a fault at distances beyond 10 km from the Energiser.”

Things to Keep in Mind / Important Notes

Even though it has monitoring capabilities, you still must ensure correct installation: good earth rods, proper insulators, correct wiring, etc. The manual emphasises that.

Make sure you select the correct variant of the JMB series (for example “32”, “25”, etc) according to your required Joules, zones, etc. The “x” in JMBx matters. Because of the high energy and monitoring features, these units are more expensive and complex than simpler energizers. Maintenance/monitoring will be more involved.

Remote features (WiFi, virtual keypad) may require setting up properly (networking, access controls) if you want to use them effectively.

Although it monitors faults, no system is perfect — vegetation, lightning, poor insulation will still reduce performance; monitoring helps you identify issues rather than magically eliminate them.

The JMB series introduces the JVA Virtual Keypad. This allows you to monitor, control and program the energizer from your Wi-Fi enabled smart device (Phone, Tablet or Laptop). The JMB's can also be controlled and monitored with a wired JVA 4-Line Keypad supplied with the unit.

By incorporating Power Monitoring and our patented, Distant Fault Detection (DFD™) technology, the JMB-ZM1 and JMB-ZM2 models can be configured to monitor long fences without the need to create loops or install return wires to connect the end of the fence voltage back to the energizer. This is also known as ‘Start of Fence’ monitoring. For those who wish to use traditional ‘End of Fence’ monitoring, these models also have an optional fence return terminal.
